Social Media to counter traditional media

For last few months rather I should say few years, I have been really amazed by the way communication is being done in our country. Primarily there are only 2 modes of communication Print Media and Electronic Media. Both were supposed to provide people with the current news and data real time so that people can act accordingly.

What really increases my apprehension is the fact that both of these media are always controlled by few people and they have all the right to align their thoughts whatever way they want to. These 2 channels of communication never represented the voice of the nation but I felt that few of these always try to create the voice of nation by imposing their thought and analysis. When I went into details, I felt that the privatization of these medium has been responsible for the same. DD News is the only channel which shows news and not analysis and that’s because it is answerable to the nation.

  • So at this point of time when the most of the news channel have foreign investments then how can we be sure about the sanctity of content?
  • With so much foreign investments, how one can be assured that somebody else in the globe is trying to hijack our nation?

At this point of time, I felt that Social Media has come to the savior of the true patriots of India. Social Media in form of text, video, pictures have provided the people with an opportunity to create views and analysis. Some factors contribute to that are
  • ·   Social media is not controlled by few people. It is a platform to share views and news for the other people
  • ·  Social media also provides an opportunity to run a trial independently of the various opinion makers
  • ·   Social media reach has been increasing and now as it is on mobile and mobile penetration in India is expected to be more than 75% by 2015
  • ·   Social media have reduced the gap of the big shots as well as VIPs and now people can track them on regular basis for the mutual benefit
  • ·   Social media provides the information in raw form and hence it is upto the end user to analyse it

At the end, it has been imperative to have social media if we want to bring more of transparency in India. And we should participate in great number to reap the maximum benefits.

Importance of Teacher and Education

I thought to write this mail after watching Chanakya where he states " Creation and destructions are in the hand of a teacher". After watching and studing a lot about chanakya and chandragupta, it was established that at that time teachers were the most respected ones in the society. At that time teacher used to be the best student in the class or university.

But now when i see our educational system and society , education is just a source to earn livelihood. Nobody considers educational institution or teachers as revolutionaries. Now the person who doesn't gets a job joins as a professor. Commitment of the teachers have been at a all time low and this is just due to the attitude of the society and indian citizen as an individual. People don't take teaching as a good profession and hence best people are no more interested in it. This is a vicious cycle which will end up in a mess and utter rotten educational system.

We as an individual should take the responsibility of respecting each individual as well as profession. I hope that whosoever will be reading it will try to change in this regard. Thanks a lot

Election Results and Management Philosophy

(Views and opinion discussed are not meant to hurt anybody’s sentiments. All the facts have been taken from news channel analysis. This is my personal opinion)

This weekend (16th May) was so crucial for our country that I decided to date my television on this occasion ;)… It was the day for the 15th Lok Sabha election results which I watched with Rajdeep Sardesai and Yogendra Yadav of CNN on the other side… I decided to write a blog where I want to express what all I feel could be the probable reasons of this kind of results…. I tried to stop myself but couldn’t… one more reason was that some of my friends haven’t followed up the elections so this blog could be of some help for them ;)

BJP is the party which I respect because it has given a bipolar nature to our general elections which used to be single or multiparty elections earlier. It has been the only party which actually rose to national status amidst 100s of other parties in the fray. Congress, I respect because of the numerous young and dynamic leaders who are more interested lately in developmental politics rather than vote bank politics since it has already been dominated by regional small players.

I think some of the reasons which led to some this kind of results are:
1) Impact of Negative Campaign: I feel derogatory campaign ”Negative Campaign ( as per marketing)” cost BJP a lot which can easily be derived from the shift in voting pattern in urban cities which used to be the forte of BJP in last 20 years. In these elections, BJP fared better in rural as compared to urban areas except Bangalore.
2) Change in Consumer Behavior: As per one of the report, UPA was ahead in first phase of election while NDA in 2nd and 3rd... so there may be widespread discontent of hung assembly which led to swing of votes in favor of congress
3) Unity and trust has been the 2 keywords taught in Organizational Behavior. Congress unity under the leadership of Gandhi family has been the most important factor while on the other hand the differences between leaders of BJP has cost dearly as the candidates selection for the constituencies have been done in the absence of key members.
4) Brand Positioning: I feel BJP also lost because of the selection of wrong candidates for the elections. I feel this has led to the vote swing in favor of congress in urban areas which were earlier the pillars for BJP.
5) Brand Extension: One of the most important reasons could be the “Brand Extension” concept which BJP tried with Lal Krishna Advani and Narendra Modi during the campaign. In our MBA we always learnt brand extension is very risky and should be avoided as it confuses the common man.
6) Coalition Politics: One of the reasons could be the breakage of alliances with TDP, BJD etc which were responsible for the presence of BJP in south India. This lead to the division of votes and hence BJP haven’t been able to get even a single seat which it could have got otherwise.

At the end I would like to summarize the discussion with the fact that at last India got a stable government and we should hope and support the government to help India to come out of the crisis.
Jai Hind!!!
